Is it possible to disinfect makeup? How?

I asked a question about someone using my makeup (I didn't give permission) and I want to be able to use it again only if it's safe. She doesn't have an eye infection that I know of.

What type of solution can I clean mascara wands and eye shadow applicators in? Is there any type of at home products I can use? Thanks in advance~Is it possible to disinfect makeup? How?
Well I was raised with a mother who is a germ-o-phobe and she passed it on to me so here are some tips:

Mascara- Take out the wand and run it under water until there is NO (absolutely NO) mascara on it.and then dip the wand in a little alcohol (don't forget to rinse it once more after that). Now if you have a tiny dropper of some sort put it like 1-2 drops of alcohol into the tube of mascara. That will get all the germs out. Be sure to wait a while before you put it on your eyes (wait like 24 hours)

Eyeliner: I find that if you use a hand antibacterial and moisten a tissue with the and wipe the ends of eyeliner it will clean it off.

Eyeshadow: I don't know who to disinfect the eyeshadow itself, however make sure that the BRUSHES are thoroughly clean. Along with using cleaner, also use some kind of surfactant (shampoo, alcohol, hand sanitizer, or regular soap) and wash the brush like you would your hair. Let it air dry overnight.

Lipstick: I got this little trick from a magazine. If you dip your lipstick in alcohol, it will remove the entire first layer and will leave you with very clean lipstick.

Lipgloss: If you have the kind with that stick then do the same thing as you would with mascara. If its the tube that goes straight on your lips just use the tissue with hand sanitizer and wipe it off.

Liquid Foundation: I haven't found a way to clean that yet, however just open the lid and then use a lot of hand sanitizer on your fingers (or whatever you use to apply it) and that helps.

Powder Foundation: This tend to be a little sturdier than eyeshadows so it's easier to clean. Get a spray bottle and put either alcohol or hand sanitizer in it. Gently mist it over the powder. Don't forget to clean your brushes!

Other powders: Same above.

Good luck! Sorry about that person! I know how annoying it can be.Is it possible to disinfect makeup? How?
Alcohol is a great way to kill the germs.

You can mix it with the mascara and kill the germs without it irritating your eyes (because it evaporates and dries so quickly). Use it on the mascara brush too.

And you can also clean eyeshadow brushes with alcohol. Or clean top layer of pressed shadow with an alcohol soaked towelette.

Alcohol doesnt cause the shadow to be soggy or the mascara to become any thinner because it evaporates and dries so quickly. It is very commonly used to actually turn pigment shadows into pressed shadows.

Good luck!
listen to ME!

It is possible to clean off your shadow. As long as it is pressed powder eyeshadow. If it is a pot of loose shadow, too bad it's contaminated. Throw it out.

To clean the shadow, scrape the top layer off. Don't bother with the alcohol. Voila! Clean shadow!

As for the mascara bit, don't put alcohol in it. All this will do is dry it out. That will not work. You need to go get a new tube. You can't just clean the brush either because the germs and bacteria are in the mascara too.

If you are going to share your make-up ( I know you said you didn't give permission), go to Sally's and get those disposable mascara wands. 10 or so come in a pack. Just remember to NEVER double dip with the same wand!!!

For sharing eyeshadow, scrape off what you are going to use on a paper towell.
rule number one: don't share mascara

rule number two: don't share eyeshadow applicators

rule number three: see rules one and two.

no, to the best of my knowledge, there are no ways to clean the mascara or eyeshadow applicators that will be safe to use near your eye. the only way i know of that will give you clean eyeshadow applicators and mascara wands would be to replace your eye makeup, and make sure that no one uses your mascara again. the wand gets too close to your eye to risk there being any germs (or chemicals) on it.
No, you cannot disinfect your makeup. I know this is your friend %26amp; she doesn't appear to have any infections. I would not want to risk it. There could be some type of bacteria or something on her eyes that doesn't affect her, but could affect you if your eyes are sensitive. You never know. Better safe than sorry.

It doesn't cost much to replace it. Be sure to let all your friends know that you don't like to share your makeup, or keep it out of sight when friends will be around. Keeping it hidden might keep you from hurting anyone's feelings.

If you clean your mascara wand it will not make a difference. She dipped it in your mascara, applied it, dipped it again, applied to the other eye, %26amp; put the want back in your mascara tube. Mascara is a liquid/gel type substance so it has absorbed anything that was on the wand. The eyeshadow shouldn't be as bad. Since it's a powder it might not have absorbed anything. Don't try to clean the applicators. Just get some more. You can get eyeshadow applicators for a few dollars anywhere you buy makeup.

Go to www.youravon.com/kwade3641 if you would like to look at Avon's mascara. I use Avon's makeup %26amp; love it.

From personal experience. My friend used my mascar when she had pink-eye. Icky. lol but this worked great, because I didnt get it. =)
make a solution of 50%rubbing alcohol 50% distilled water. spray all over your makeup products then wipe or allow to air dry...
I know you can buy new mascara wands.

If the eye shadow has been infected you'll have to throw it away.

I haven't tried it but in the stores they always have alcohol next to the testers. Try that.
