Some places will do free makeup applications. Clinique used to do that but I heard they have a minimum purhcase now. Anyway, check the mall or big department stores for places that will do that. Of course they're hoping you'll buy their makeup but in many cases, you don't have to (and if they do have a requirement like that, they'll let you know up front). You could even call ahead to ask if you don't want to have to deal w/ it on the spot. Anyway, when they do the makeup you can ask questions and stuff and they'll give you advice. start with a good face routine: wash,tone,exfoliate %26amp; moisturize, because if you don't,make up will not look right. This is easy,just whatever your skin type is: dry/oily/combo.
Find a foundation: do you want a mineral(powder)makeup or do you want liquid? there is a wonderful mineral makeup at Body Shop,they also have other types of makeup,very natural, no animal testing. Liquid makeups: covergirl is not pricey and its a good line,more expensive: smashbox photo ready or their tinted moisturizers are great and they have vit/minerals to give you glowing skin when choosing the right color,apply to jawline to see if it matches the neck,that way it won't look like a mask,for cheek color again,covergirl/cheekstains are in;like tarte or benefit. you may want to set your makeup with a powder(if using liquid) transparent is best,lips a nice tinted gloss/bold color,whatever you prefer,eyemakeup depends on your eyecolor or hair color or your preference,blues:browns look best,browneyes:purple/mauve/green,hazel:鈥?etc.eyeliner and a good mascara and you are set.

There's a make up series on bravo and there are numerous websites. Glamour, marie claire, etc. Sometimes going to a beauty school and asking girls helps, but take it with a grain of salt, the same as at beauty counters.
